Squain Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-15
Squain helps you and your group train together, compare your weekly effort, and cheer each other on. We built this app to be useful without being nosy. This policy explains, in plain language, what information Squain collects, how it is used, and the choices and rights you have. If anything here is unclear, please reach out. Our contact details are at the bottom.
What we collect
To run Squain, we collect only what the app needs to work:
- Your name: the display name you choose to show to your group. You pick it, and you can change it at any time.
- Your group memberships: which groups you belong to, so we can show you the right leaderboards, members, and activity.
- Your workouts and effort score: the workouts you complete, along with an effort and strain score that Squain calculates from your heart rate. This is health and fitness data, and we treat it with extra care.
- The reactions you give: the cheers and reactions you send to other members, so they appear in your group's activity feed.
We do not ask for or collect information that Squain does not need to do its job.
Health and fitness data
Squain works with health and fitness data, specifically your workouts, your heart rate, and the effort and strain score we calculate from them. Because this is sensitive information, we are careful about how we handle it, as described in the next section. We only ever read the workout and heart-rate information you allow when you grant the app permission, and we use it solely to show you and your group your weekly effort.
On-device processing
Your raw heart rate is processed directly on your phone to calculate your effort and strain score. The detailed, moment-to-moment heart-rate readings are kept in your own account only, so that you can look back at your own history. They are tied to you and are not shown to other members of your group. Your group sees your effort and strain score and your workout summary, not your underlying heart-rate readings.
How we use your information
We use your information for one purpose: to run the features of Squain. That means we use it to:
- Show your groups and the people in them.
- Calculate and display weekly leaderboards.
- Build your group's activity feed, including the reactions you and others send.
- Send the notifications you have chosen to receive.
We want to be completely clear about what we do not do:
- No advertising. Squain does not show you ads.
- No tracking. We do not follow you around other apps or websites, and we do not build advertising profiles.
- We never sell your data. Your information is not for sale, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Storage and retention
Your information is kept in your Squain account, and it stays there until you choose to delete it. When you remove your data or delete your account, the information you have asked us to remove is deleted. We keep your information only for as long as you keep using Squain, and only for as long as it is needed to provide the app to you.
Your choices and rights
Squain gives you direct control over your information, and you have the rights provided under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access your data, the right to correct it, and the right to have it erased.
You can act on these rights right inside the app:
- Export your data: in Settings, you can export a copy of your Squain data at any time.
- Delete your account: you can delete your account, and the data associated with it, directly from Settings.
- Access and correct: you can view and update your display name and other profile details from within the app.
If you would like help exercising any of these rights, you can contact us using the details below.
Notifications
Squain can send you notifications, for example, when your group is active or when someone reacts to your workout. You are always in control of these. You can turn notifications off at any time from within Squain's settings, and you can also manage them from your phone's own settings for the app. Turning notifications off does not affect anything else about your account.
Children
Squain is not directed at children. The app is intended for people aged 16 and over, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will remove it.
